Our guest room isn't exactly inspirational...it's more like a work in progress,
but I do like quite a few things about it and I hope you do too!
As you may have read in previous posts, all of our bedrooms and bathrooms
are painted Sherwin-Williams Austere Grey - a soothing greenish-grey.
The trim is Sherwin-Williams Alabaster.

Ok, now let's take a look:



The bed - queen size - just box spring and mattress on a bed frame.
The bed that matches the other furniture in the room is a full size,
and we had a queen mattress set and figured guests would prefer the queen.
The full bed is in sweet potato's room...it's basically our changing table.  :)
I snagged the curtains with a 30% off coupon from World Market - orig $59.98/pair.
What I want: some nice throw pillows to make the bed more inviting and cozy.

 

I love the lamp.  I bought it several years ago at 

the New Orleans Gift and Jewelry Show for $39.

I changed the shade recently to update the look.  Not sure if I love it or not.

Who wouldn't love that photo of sweet potato at 3 days old!?!?

I double-heart the Sienna Paisley duvet and shams from Pottery Barn. 

I wanted something very basic for the rug (Home Decorators) ...just a backdrop and
something soft under guests' feet as they get out of bed.
It's synthetic (I'm very allergic to wool) but has a nice texture and subtle pattern
which includes some goldish/greenish color...
which tends to highlight a very similar color found in the duvet.  I also really like how the
duvet, rug and floor stain complement each other.

This may seem strange but one of my favorite things in the guest room are
the return rods for the curtains (from Country Curtains).  I have them in 2 other rooms
and I honestly don't think I'll ever buy any other curtains rods.  I think they are a great price ($24-$40 depending on size) and I love the finished look and added privacy they provide! 
Note: I pulled the curtains back to take the photo but they usually "return" to the wall.

The rods used in the guest room are antique brown - in my other rooms
I used the black ones.  I'm seriously temped to order a bunch of these just in case
they ever stop making them!
Yikes, does that make me sound like a hoarder?!
This photo shows the great texture in the curtains, which makes them look
a lot more expensive than they were!

The furniture in our guest room was my husband's great-grandfather's
bedroom set.  I love the interesting curved front of the dresser.
Please excuse the boring styling, this dresser top could surely use a makeover,
but the items are sentimental...

The little dish was my Maw Maw's (grandmother) and is a great place for guests
to put their watch and jewelry. The Rockbridge book was a wedding gift - my husband
lived in Rockbridge County, Virginia for 6 years.
The old framed photos on the left are my grandfather and my father as a child and
the silly framed photo on the right is my sweet potato at 4 months old! :)
I still laugh that we took him to Sears for those photos!

Again, the top of this piece could use some style therapy...

The black and white photo is my grandfather (man on the left)
at our family's lumberyard in the 1940's.  Our family's lumber company
was started by my great-grandfather in 1920.
The glass vases are Pottery Barn and were wedding gifts.
